Our Troop

Troop 40 is a combined boys and girls scouting troop located in Orange, Massachusetts.  We are a member of the Heart of New England Council and Scouting America.  We meet on Thursday evenings at 7 pm at Saint Mary’s Parish.  Our meetings involve the scouts learning outdoor skills, first aid, teamwork, leadership, and, of course, fun.  These skills are then applied in our weekend camping trips and daily lives.  We take Scouting’s saying, “Prepared for Life,” to heart as we help the youth of the community reach their utmost potential.

Our Scouts

The scouts in our troop are youth between the ages of 11 and 18.  We welcome the youth of all faiths and lifestyles who wish to have fun and embrace the ideals of Scouting America.  Most of our scouts live in Orange and Athol, but anyone in the surrounding area can join.

Our Adult Leaders

The troop is guided by a group of adult volunteers who believe in Scouting America’s values and the impact the program has on our scouts.  All of our adult volunteers are vetted through background checks.  Before becoming adult leaders, each person takes multiple training courses on protecting youth and outdoor safety.  Our troop strictly abides by Scouting America’s two-deep leadership policy.  This ensures youth are never in a one-on-one situation with an adult.  Youth safety is our priority.
